The Cotswolds is recognised worldwide as a must-visit location, where tourists can experience an authentic slice of ‘Olde Worlde England’. Recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, many return from their trip with hundreds (if not thousands!) of pictures of chocolate box cottages entangled with wild flowers and dreamy landscapes of the lush rural countryside.
So you’ve taken the plunge and booked your trip, but now what? With so many activities and must-see sights to choose from, you may be wondering how you’re going to squeeze it all in! To make sure you get the most out your stay, we’ve put together a bucket list of what to do in the Cotswolds that we know you’ll love
1. Rollright Stones
Perched proudly on top of a limestone ridge on the boundary between Oxfordshire and Warwickshire, the Rollright Stones compose an ancient site consisting of three separate groups of stones. From tales of witch craft to fortune telling, there are various fascinating legends surrounding these stones. Nowadays this atmospheric site is visited for its rumoured healing properties.
2. Enjoy a pint of local cider at England’s oldest Inn
Take a step back in time to the 10th century and step into The Porch House; flagstone flooring, exposed brickwork, community chatter and the warm glow of candlelight. This stunning building, will give you a real taste of what it was like to visit an old fashioned public house. As the British pub is one of its most celebrated and loved traditions, it would be rude not to enjoy a pint while visiting! In the warmer months, why not retreat to the outside terrace and soak up the rays in this historical establishment?
3. Take a trip to the most photographed street in the UK
Situated in Bibury, Arlington Row boasts a row of beautiful 16th century weaver’s cottages. After a visit here you will soon understand why William Morris Christened it ‘The most beautiful village in England’. You may also recognise the village from blockbuster classics, including ‘Stardust’ and, ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’. While you’re in the area you can also pay a visit to Bidbury Trout Farm’ which serves fresh trout meals, a culinary delicacy in the region! Truth be told, there are many quaint little villages in the Cotswolds which are equally as beautiful, we recommend visiting: Snowshill, Stanton and Lower Slaughter.
4. Explore the country pathways
With over 8,000 paths to follow around the stunning countryside, you don’t want to miss taking the whole family out for an adventure. Pack a picnic, rally the little ones and enjoy a day taking in the rural bliss. Witness the beauty of patchwork hills, wild meadows, crisp woodlands and trickling streams which will take your breath away. The literature-fanatics in your family will relish the fact this very countryside inspired many literary legends; Beatrix Potter and J. R. R. Tolkien to name drop a few! After a long day exploring, kick back in the luxuries of our accommodation, ready for another day of exploration!
