Tilbury Farm offers breathtaking panoramic views of the stunning Somerset countryside, where nature enthusiasts, walkers, cyclists, and anyone seeking peace and tranquillity can immerse themselves in the beautiful landscapes that surround these charming holiday properties.
An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Quantock Hills, sit just south of Exmoor National Park and offers visitors a visual feast of lush moorlands, woodland, rivers and stunning coastline. You can be absorbed in some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK whilst never being to far from the local local towns, sights and attractions.
Exmoor National Park is also a designated Dark Sky Reserve making it a spectacular place to star gaze and learn your constellations. So even as night falls you can still take in the breathtaking surroundings and revel in the simplicity of nature.
For all those keen walkers out there, you can follow the Quantock Ridgeway to Will’s Neck, reaching the highest point on the Quantock Hills with amazing panoramic views. Alternatively you can explore the bluebell woods and Tilbury Park through Cothelstone Estate to the south of the site.
The National Park offers a variety of local walks suitable for all levels of ability, from beginners to avid hikers, including those walking with children. One of the most popular routes is The Tarr Steps near Dulverton. The seven-mile circular walk starts at the steps, an ancient clapper bridge renowned as one of Exmoor's historical gems. Legend has it that the slabs were placed there by the devil to win a bet with a local giant!
The historical legend continues with a visit to Dunster Castle which is just half an hour away from the properties. Dating back over 1,000 years, this ancient castle and watermill has existed since Norman times possessing a turbulent history. Now owned by the National Trust, visitors can explore the castle and its impressive gardens which display an array of subtropical plants.
For those seeking a faster-paced experience, a trip to Wimbleball Lake offers a fantastic day out for the whole family, with an array of watersports to be enjoyed in incredible surroundings. Paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, and sailing are just some of the activities available, or you can choose to unwind in the Coffee Couture café with a warm toastie or a scrumptious slice of cake while others work up a sweat.
Alternatively, you can hop in the car and take drive to the beautiful coastline. Minehead Beach is a favourite among visitors, boasting a long stretch of golden sand. This beach welcomes dogs from October through to the end of April and offers amenities, such as a café and beach shop. It's enjoyed by kitesurfers and windsurfers for its gentle, rolling waves, and the beach itself is perfect for picnics and summer balls games.
Further east you will find Kilve Beach is a pebble and rock beach which offers a chance to go rockpooling and spot some marine life when the tide is out. As a Site of Special Scientific Interest it is definitely worth a visit!
Animal enthusiasts will be further delighted with an extraordinary experience at Exmoor Zoo, home of the Exmoor Beast, located just 50 minutes away from the properties. Guests can mingle with meerkats, monkeys, and even have the opportunity to be a zookeeper for a day or take a VIP guided tour of the zoo.
For a more leisurely day of exploration, meander around boutique shops and sample delicious eateries in one of the many charming towns and villages in the surrounding area.
A trip to Lynton and Lynmouth is definitely worth a drive, offering a wonderfully scenic journey along the way. These picturesque coastal villages are connected by The Cliff Railways, making them the perfect spot for a delightful cream tea or a hearty serving of fish and chips.
Porlock, another picturesque village in Somerset, is nestled between the stunning Exmoor National Park and the captivating Bristol Channel, offering visitors a charming mix of natural beauty and quaint, historic charm. The historic harbour at Porlock Weir is also a must-visit.
The famous town of Glastonbury is less than an hour away and gives visitors the chance to climb Glastonbury Tor and take in the breathtaking views from the top. You can also explore the historic remains of Glastonbury Abbey and uncover the stories of its legendary past.
Taunton, the county town of Tilbury Farm, sits just 20 minutes south of the holiday properties and provides plenty of local attractions for visitors to enjoy. The Museum of Somerset is housed within the original Taunton Castle and features a range of collections and exhibitions. And every Thursday the town plays hosts to a bustling farmers market where you can pick up a treat or two.
In addition to the vibrant farmers' markets found in the towns and villages of Wiveliscombe, Minehead, and Watchet, the local area boasts a variety of delightful farm shops and eateries.
The Rising Sun is a charming local pub and restaurant which is just a 10 minutes walk through the fields from your holiday property. With a traditional thatched roof and low wooden beams, this stone-built pub offers a cosy retreat were you can enjoy delicious food and a well-earned tipple.
The New Inn is a community owned coaching inn which is just a short drive away from the farm. The 18th century restaurant, bar and café, has been trading inn Halse for 300 years with some name and owner changes along the way; although its cosy and friendly quality has always remained. Chef, Kaan Atasoy, offers traditional English food with an irresistible continental twist, whilst the café serves a range of drinks, snacks and sweet treats.
