In a nutshell 

The Area Manager role at Together Travel combines business development, property sales, and operations management for our Cornish locations. 

This is a commercial role and requires a candidate who has an exceptional knowledge and experience of the self-catering holiday business within the region. Relationship building is a vital part of the role as the Area Manager will be responsible for being an ambassador of the brand to homeowners, the Together Travel team and to prospective homeowners.

This is a varied role and is perfect for someone who enjoys every aspect of the luxury self-catering sector. In the shoulder season the focus will be more on the Business Development aspect of the role and in the peak season will lead to closely being involved in site operations to ensure the site is running effectively. The role will incorporate being on call for two days per week for Operations when the Resort Supervisor is on days off and for holiday cover. 

Excellent organisation and time management skills are vital for the success of the Area Manager who will have the autonomy to manage their time in line with the needs of the role. 

Day to day responsibilities

Understanding the market and identifying opportunities

  • To have, and to maintain impressive knowledge of the local holiday market with the emphasis on the luxury self-catering sector.
  • Identify opportunities that match the Together Travel brand that would complement the current portfolio.
  • Network with key players within the property and holiday markets to build relationships and facilitate referrals at all the relevant entry points – planning/design/build/sell/operate.
  • Collaborate with the Central team and operational site teams to ensure all opportunities and leads are identified and maximised.

Business development

  • Research prospects thoroughly, using appropriate resources, such as press, internet, and relevant industry contacts in a structured manner.
  • Attend networking events at least 1-2 per month, this may include evening events.
  • Contact prospective owners and present the Together Travel outlining our unique selling points including, the Concierge, internal marketing expertise and on-site property management services.
  • Work with property owners and the relevant departments to put together bespoke Operational Management Agreements (OMA’s) or Sales and Marketing agreements for new locations or individual property contracts.
  • Be an expert on how the owner portal operates to demonstrate key functionality/benefits to property owners.
  • Provide a regular report to the Managing Director, outlining qualified prospects identified, and progress made with leads generated.
  • Consult with our local agent in the sales of our properties at Trewhiddle Village in terms of following up on viewings and walk in’s. 

Site Operations

  • Combine outstanding people skills, the Area Manager will have considerable organisational ability, commercial acumen, and close attention to detail.
  • Work with the Resort Supervisor to ensure that all accommodation is maintained to an excellent condition, that housekeeping standards are always exemplary and that all guests receive a meet and greet in line with brand standards.
  • Adopt PPM (Planned, Preventative Maintenance) techniques to preserve the longevity of the Together Travel product quality and associated guest experience.
  • Gain full knowledge and maintain all operational systems and services including Health and Safety practices as gas, water supply etc.
  • Control and monitor payroll costs.
  • Monitor and be accountable for the site ledger/finances, including outstanding debt and the responsible use of the company credit card, review P&L reports and support the Resort Supervisor in taking appropriate action.
  • Drive the business forward through off season periods through new revenue generating initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with existing Owners both at Trewhiddle, Newquay and Fowey, and coordinate communications as required.
  • Support in the annual Service charge and Stay cost review.

About you

A passion for the travel, property and leisure industries is vital - with a great appreciation and understanding of the current marketplace. You will be an expert on the self-catering sector with a passion for a fantastic product and exceptional service.

The ideal candidate will have experience in: operations and homeowner recruitment within the luxury self-catering industry.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, face to face, over the phone and via email. You will be representing the brand and will have excellent interpersonal and networking skills. Your communication style will be positive, encouraging, and motivating with the ability to negotiate successfully.

Being highly motivated is key. You will be a self-starter and be able to keep focussed on your goals. You will be able to work both independently and, in a team-orientated, collaborative environment.

A driving licence, excellent organisational skills and computer skills are key for this role.
