Harris Distillery

An incredible addition to the pretty harbour town of Tarbert, the Harris distillery is light-years ahead of it's time in terms of visitor experience. Guests on the tour are invited to sip wee drams in smoky oak-laden rooms, given tasters of secret ingredients and smells of heavenly botanicals before weaving through ginormous copper stills and learning about the fascinating yet humble origins of the project. 

The Isle of Harris Distillery is a working distillery, creating spirits for the award-winning Isle of Harris Gin and the forthcoming 'The Hearach' Single Malt Whisky. The doors are unlocked to guests at 10am, from Monday to Saturday, with a traditional peat fire lit in the heart of the distillery each morning to give everyone a warm welcome. There is no public wi-fi, no widescreen TVs or interactive displays. Instead, you will find real connection through the friendly staff, ready and willing to share their story and island spirit.

Their convivial Canteen is also open to all, staff and visitors alike, offering a simple menu of delicious hot soups and homebaking, served at communal tables or in the comfort of Harris Tweed chairs. The distillery Shop is filled with fresh batches of Isle of Harris Gin daily, as well as a selection of fine wines and spirits from some of their favourite producers. You will also find other local wares, as well as books, gifts and other interesting goods.

And while you're very welcome to cross the threshold at any time, their regular Tours allow you to go behind the scenes and witness the heart of the distilling operation. Guided by knowledgeable local staff, each tour will bring you closer to island life, deepening your appreciation of the distillery and how the Isle of Harris makes its spirits.

TOUR INFORMATION

The tours are now closed for the quieter winter season and will begin again in April 2023. However, the shop will re-open in March 2023. 

However, if you have a group of 8 or more people and would like a private tour of the distillery, get in touch and they will endeavour to accommodate you if they can.

Tours are priced at £10.00 per person (inclusive of whisky and gin samplings) and last just over one hour.
