Learn More About the Area

Surrounded by acre upon acre of traditional Yorkshire countryside, you will never tire of the rugged moors and voluptuous, green dales. With its pretty stone hamlets, historic market towns, grand castles, and breathtaking landscape- the Yorkshire Dales has inspired visitors for generations. There are also plenty of quaint shops, local attractions and cosy pubs dotted along the way for you to enjoy on your travels. It is a county that  truly delivers a wealth of holiday pleasures.

Set within traditional Yorkshire farmland, you will be surrounded by verdant fields and friendly sheep in the contemporary cottages at Mount Pleasant Farm. The properties offer a peaceful and secluded spot located just a 10 minute drive from the A1 and a short drive from the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park

If you can bear to pull yourself away from the comfort of your cosy cottage, there is much to see and do in the area.

Catterick is a short distance away and is convenient for local supermarkets to stock up on lots of goodies for your stay or you can travel 15 minutes into Richmond, an area steeped with history and beautiful landmarks, as well as lots of quaint shops and eateries.

You can start your day with a spot of coffee at The Station Café & Bar or indulge in a delicious pastry from The Angel’s Share – a finalist on ITV’s ‘Britain’s Best Bakery’.

Enrich your historical knowledge at the Green Howards Museum which houses artefacts from the Crimean War and archives from World War I and II. Immerse yourself a little further in Richmond’s fascinating past and visit the Georgian Theatre Royal – Britain’s oldest working theatre. Here you can catch a show and even try on the costumes and take a guided tour. There is also the legendary pantomime to entertain the little ones during the festive season.

As you meander through the town square there are several art galleries for you to dip in and out of, such as The Lucy Pittaway Gallery which proudly showcases the artist's famously vibrant sheep, amongst many other pieces which celebrate a joyful perspective of northern life and character. If you prefer your art a little more digital you can pop to The Station Cinema where you can watch all the new releases in a traditional, impressive Victorian theatre.

Venture into the great outdoors at Bolton-On-Swale Nature Reserve, a former sand and gravel quarry, along the river which is now rich with an abundance of wildlife and a large number of breeding and wintering wildfowl.

Once you’ve well and truly tired yourself out, you can round off the day with a hearty meal or a glass of your favourite tipple in fantastic local eateries such as The Little Drummer Boy by Cocina which serves delicious tapas and other Mediterranean flavours or sample freshly cooked pizza from La Piazza.

Little ones will love The Forbidden Corner in Leyburn where they can adventure through a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers in a garden at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Or get a little more hands on at Big Sheep Little Cow Farm where they can meet all the farm animals from chickens to alpacas.

Big kids looking to engage in something a little more thrill-seeking can visit Yorkshire’s favourite theme park, Lightwater Valley with over 40 rides and attractions. Paint-ball, abseiling and zip wires are also on offer at Adrenalin North Yorkshire where you’re sure to work up an appetite for a well-earned treat at the end of the day.

For those guests seeking something a little calmer, Richmond Golf Course offers a day of gentle activity over it’s picturesque, rolling greens, or if you would prefer to sit back and watch someone else do the work entirely, you can try your luck at Catterick Racecourse, a venue steeped in tradition which promises a fantastic day out.

If luck is on your side at the races, there is certainly opportunity for a congratulatory drink. Indulge in a delicious cocktail at Elixir in Richmond or relax with a simple pint at the George and Dragon in Hudswell, a community owned pub which offers a traditional warm, Yorkshire welcome.
